You see, Jesus Christ has already told you everything you need to know: he is the way, the truth, and the life. He has promised you that God has sent his Holy Spirit to abide within your heart. The only catch is that you must love him and remain in his love. When you see Jesus, you see the creator of all, the One who is the Alpha and the Omega—the One who has the power to draw you into everlasting happiness. – from chapter 1 of Understanding The Jesus Code

Scripture is rich with a message: God is close to the brokenhearted. Remember, God knows when to best extend his love and comfort. He repeatedly tells us that he extends his love and comfort abundantly when we are deeply troubled and brokenhearted. Have you noticed that scripture doesn’t tell us that God is close to the angry? Rather, scripture reveals to us that God rebukes the angry, and he corrects their behavior. It also reveals to us the harm anger causes you and those you love.

Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
—Colossians 3:21

While in our saddest moments in our life we acutely feel heartache and pain. We have given up on false hope, and we are mourning the loss of something precious in this world. Each and every one of us will experience pain in this world. That’s right, Jesus shared with us that in this world, a world of sin where the Evil One is the ruler, we will have tribulation and pain. However, Jesus has promised us peace—a peace that this sinful world cannot give, a sinful world that he has overcome.

“I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
—John 16:33

Sadness can a defining point in your life. You can either turn to the aid of God, or you can turn away from him. When you turn toward him at this point, you will move toward the one who can heal and transform your heart. If you turn away, you will inevitably experience further pain and heartache. Unfortunately, many individuals never come to know God, and sadly, they never fully live the life their heart desires. However, imagine for a moment what the world would look like if everyone heard the voice of Jesus at their lowest point and they decided to believe in him? What a world we would have.

“For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
—John 6:40
